How it works

Gallons = distance ÷ mpg; cost = gallons × price per gallon. Example: 280 miles at 28 mpg use 10 gallons; at $3.50 a gallon, $35.

Real economy changes with speed, traffic, load, air conditioning and terrain. Use your car's highway mpg for road trips.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my car's real mpg?

Fill the tank, reset the trip meter, drive, fill up again: miles driven ÷ gallons added = mpg.

Are tolls included?

No. The calculator shows fuel only; add tolls and parking separately.

How can I use less fuel on a trip?

Keep a steady speed, check tire pressure and avoid carrying extra weight; at highway speeds, economy drops as speed rises.
